One of the first visitors to the CNC booth was Kenisha, an oncology nurse at HHC Lincoln Hospital. She stopped by, beaming from ear to ear, saying, “Cancer and Nutrition? I had to stop.” She was excited to see that someone was taking the initiative on the issue of cancer nutrition. She left with multiple samples to bring to the hospital to have patients try and more information on the work of the CNC.
We also talked with Natasha, a student at CUNY Lehman College. Her face lit up when she was told of the CNC and the work it was doing. She is a nursing student who wants to focus on cancer-related diet and nutrition. She sampled the CNC approved HORMEL VITAL CUISINE shake and was in awe that something could taste so good and be so specifically good for a cancer patient.
The morning of the event was incredible. To see so many survivors alongside current patients in treatment cheering eachother on, congratulating one another on successes, placed an err of hope over the whole event. Seeing entire families walking to support a loved one, children wearing pink wigs wearing shirts with photos of their mothers, seeing women who have been in remission of 20 years continuing to battle for others was a sight like none other.
As more and more walkers began to cross the finish line the CNC tent was swarmed with people wanting to learn more about the CNC and to sample Vital Cuisine. There were clipboards being passed left and right to the get the email addresses of hundreds of supporters and bottles of Vital Cuisine seemed to fly off the table. The people at the event were hopeful and excited to see a non-profit like the CNC promoting a product that was designed for cancer patients in treatment and those rebuilding afterward.
The CNC recipe cards, which doubled as informational guides, were also a hot commodity.
Special thanks to HORMEL VITAL CUISINE™ for providing the samples that helped us do that in NYC. With each purchase of Vital Cuisine a portion of proceeds is donated directly to the causes and efforts of the CNC. After such a successful event at the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk the CNC looks forward to another opportunity to quench people’s thirst for cancer nutrition resources.
